Special Issue on: Advancements in Civil and Structural Engineering Journal of Structural Integrity and Maintenance

Papers contained in this special issue on ‘Advancements in Civil and Structural Engineering’ were shortlisted from the 119 papers presented at the Civil Engineering Research in Ireland 2016 (CERI2016) conference held in Galway, Ireland in August 2016.

There has been emphasis on applications, as well as theory, to maintain relevance to both industry and academia in this special issue.

An aim of the conference series is to nurture early-career researchers by making it accessible and offering opportunities wherever possible to grow them as the next generation of leaders in research and industry. Thus, 5 out of the 12 papers selected for this special issue on ‘Advancements in Civil and Structural Engineering’ have PhD candidates as lead authors. The five eminent keynote speakers at CERI2016, who were Prof Enzo Siviero, Prof W. John McCarter, Prof J. David Frost, Prof Corey Griffin and Dr Annette Harte, are the lead authors on another 5 papers contained in this special issue.

I hope that this special issue on ‘Advancements in Civil and Structural Engineering’ will be of interest and use to all and a good reference to both researchers and practicing engineers.
