Andrew W.H. Ip Enterprise Information Systems

What are your visions for the journal?

Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) is devoted to original research and novel applications in improving the functions of an enterprise business and engineering management processes, and the theoretical and managerial implications of the system integrations and implementations. I would like to give special thanks to Prof. L. Xu, who has performed outstandingly as previous Editor-in-Chief by promoting and developing a quality journal which has published numerous excellent articles in both technical and applications aspects of EIS technology. All editorial board members, including me, are grateful for his efforts, and aspire to continue the journal development direction. I shall be dedicated to maintain this high quality journal by publishing articles which are novel and interesting to the EIS community at large.

We all see the journal as an information systems journal primarily, which means to us that articles must be focused but cross-disciplinary, and advance the existing enterprise information systems. Sometimes, authors easily confuse cross-disciplinary with abstraction, which are totally different. Systems that are comprehensively designed, developed and applied can be completely concrete without any abstraction. Through focusing, simulations and proofs, whenever possible, are not the only requirement, but also using mathematical and computational methods correctly as a means that are scientifically valid in solving a dedicated problem. Enterprise Information Systems focuses on issues related to EIS design, applications, implementation, and impacts in industrial sectors, including business and finance, manufacturing, services, healthcare, environment, energy and government. Areas covered include but are not limited to business intelligence, enterprise modeling, virtual enterprises, enterprise computing systems, quality assurance in enterprise computing, systems engineering and Internet of Things (IoT) as well as Big Data Aanalytics and IoT strategies for enterprises.

Without any interruption of the existing direction, double blind review processes and leading-edge research articles ensure the journal appeals to researchers. While case studies in technical and applications aspects of EIS technology allowing a rapid dissemination to ensure the journal’s popularity with practitioners in the industry. It aims to be a world-class research platform for academics and professionals to publish scholarly research in the field of EIS.

What are your background and interests?

I have more than 30 years of experience in teaching, research, industry and consulting. I received my PhD from Loughborough University in the U.K., MBA from Brunel University, M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from Cranfield University, and LLB (Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton. After finishing postgraduate degrees in industrial engineering in the UK, my engineering research career began at that time with novel work in Industrial Engineering, Information Systems and Management Science.

In the area of Enterprise Systems modeling, logistics and supply chains, RFID and artificial intelligence, I gained deep understanding in these disciplines and I am fluent in their theories and methodologies in order to assemble and create a new unified framework for discovery and innovation. Recently, I was awarded the “Natural Science Award - Second Class” by the Ministry of Education of Mainland China. This award was given for the successful scientific achievements which include publication in five monographs and in more than 600 international and Chinese journal papers, books, and patents. The related research work was supported by funding from Natural Science Foundation of China, 863, and National Science Technology Support Program.

As a principal investigator, I have obtained over HK$30 million R&D grants including the Innovation and Technology Fund from the industry and government, research donations, and collaborative research projects. Many of my research works have been transferred successfully to the academic and industries; they are related to design, development and implementation of new Enterprise System methodologies and technologies which aim to achieve strategic and operational improvements in organizations. Over the years I have been consultant for various companies and was independent non-executive directors of listed companies in the Hong Kong stock market. Currently, I am Honorary Advisor of the China Aircraft Service Company Limited, the Honorary Professor of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Honorary Professor Honorary of South China Normal University, Honorary Professor of Civil Aviation University of China, and also Honorary Fellow of the Warwick Manufacturing Group, The University of Warwick.
