Celebrating Bina Agarwal's Ordre du Mérite Agricole

Bina Agarwal, Editorial Board member of Feminist Economics and former President of the International Association for Feminist Economics, has been appointed officer in the Ordre du Mérite Agricole (Order of Agricultural Merit) by France. This prestigious award is given for outstanding contributions to agriculture, and is rarely bestowed upon non-French nationals.

The Ambassador of France, Francois Richier, said the award had been bestowed on Bina Agarwal, Professor of Development Economics and Environment at the University of Manchester, UK, in recognition of her “remarkable international career as a development economist, [her] work on the rural economy, much of which has received acclaim and awards, as well as [her] strong commitment towards rural development, gender equality and the environment”.

To celebrate the recognition of her work, we have made Agarwal's papers published in Routledge journals free to read until the end of May 2016. She has published in Feminist Economics, Journal of Peasant Studies and more, showcasing her expertise in the field of agricultural economics, especially with reference to gender related issues.
