Virtual Special Issue: 30th Anniversary of Anthrozoös Anthrozoös: A multidisciplinary journal of the interactions of people and animals

Anthrozoös

Anthrozoös celebrated its 30th birthday in 2017. To honor this occasion, we decided it would be a good time to look back over the years and see just what our readers have been downloading, citing, and talking about on social media. To do this, our publishers, Taylor & Francis, used the following information: Top downloaded in 2017; Top downloaded in 2018; Top altmetric scoring in the last year; Top cited in 2017; and Top cited of all time. And to mark our 30th anniversary, we are publishing the top 30 papers based on these criteria in this Virtual Special Issue. The papers are in chronological order and all are free to access until 31 July 2019.

Our collection shows a major interest in research on the potential health benefits of owning and interacting with companion animals, and the effectiveness of animal-assisted interventions. There are also articles on attitudes to animals and how companion animals influence the way people are perceived (e.g., in online dating sites); gender differences in human–animal interactions; and the animal ethics profiling of vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters. And while most of the articles are about human–companion animal interactions, there are also some on our relationships with farmed, wild, and zoo animals.

I hope you find this collection of papers interesting and useful.

Happy reading!
