British Journal for the History of Philosophy

Appointment of an Associate Editor
Application deadline: 25 May 2018 by 5pm BST

The British Journal for the History of Philosophy (BJHP), in association with the British Society for the History of Philosophy (BSHP) and Taylor & Francis (its publisher), is seeking to appoint a new Associate Editor to help in the general running of the journal and to take responsibility, in particular, for submissions in the area of medieval philosophy.

The BJHP is the journal of the British Society for the History of Philosophy, and publishes peer-reviewed articles, discussions and reviews on the history of philosophy from the ancient world to the end of the twentieth century. The journal was founded by Professor John Rogers in 1993, and has since firmly established itself as one of the leading international journals in the field. We now receive over 350 submissions a year, and publish six issues a year, two of them special issues. Further information about the journal can be found on our website.

We have been gradually broadening the range of work we publish in history of philosophy, and we are keen to encourage more submissions in medieval philosophy, for which the new Associate Editor would be responsible. For further details of our aims and policies, and our concern to broaden the canon, see the editorial to the first issue of this year’s volume of the BJHP.

The new editor will work in a team that includes the Deputy Editor Dr Alix Cohen and Professor Pauline Phemister (early modern philosophy), Professor Stephen Clark (ancient philosophy), Dr Sacha Golob (19th and 20th c. philosophy), and Dr Mark Sinclair (Reviews Editor).

The preferred candidate will have research interests and publications in the area of medieval philosophy, editorial and/or research management experience, excellent organisational abilities, and the capacity to work effectively in a team. An institutional base in the UK would be an advantage, but not essential.

Applications, including a 1-page covering letter, curriculum vitae, and names of two referees, should be sent by email to Michael Beaney by 5pm (UK time) on Friday 25 May 2018. The appointing committee will be composed of the BJHP Editor and Deputy Editor, the BSHP Chair, and one other BJHP Associate Editor. We would hope to be able to make the appointment during the first week of June.
