Goal 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability International Journal of Urban Sustainable Development

Established following the Millennium Summit of the United Nations in 2000, the Millennium Development Goals were formed to galvanise efforts to meet the needs of the world's poorest. The seventh goal seeks to Ensure Environmental Sustainability across a range of targets.

Within the goal of ensuring environmental sustainability, the main targets set are to integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programmes and reverse the loss of environmental resources; reduce biodiversity loss; lower the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation; and to instigate a significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers.
