European Journal of Remote Sensing: an Open Access journal Submit to this Special Issue on: UAS for Mapping and Monitoring

European Journal of Remote Sensing

This special issue invites papers based on the works accepted for the 1 st EARSeL Workshop UAS, which will be held in Warsaw (Poland) in September 2018. All submissions shall be substantively expanded, refined or otherwise revised relative to the proceedings paper to fully satisfy the standards of significance, originality and presentation quality that may result in acceptance through the journal peer review process. The European Journal of Remote Sensing (EuJRS) invites a broad range of high quality original research articles, or review articles focused on UAS for mapping and monitoring. Potential topics, but not limited to:


1. UAS applications in mapping & 3D reconstruction of land surfaces:

Mapping of land tenure, Photogrammetric mapping, Digital elevation modeling

2. UAS in urban studies & modelling:

3D city modelling, urban inventories, green roof inventories, thermal studies

3.UAS in rural monitoring:

Agriculture, Forestry, Natura 2000 monitoring, surface quarries & mining, wetlandmonitoring, protected zones (e.g.polar zones), touristic development, coastal protection

4. UAS in natural resources inventory:

Geomorphology, geology, hydrology, hyper spectral data

5. UAS in security & emergency support:

Oil spill monitoring, disaster control, real-time emergency mapping;

6. UAS in cultural heritage & archaeology:

Cultural monument conservation, archaeology, monitoring protected sites

7. Quality of data collection using UAS:

Integration of the autopilot with the UAS platform, integration of sensor shutter with exact GPS position, sensor specifications and limitations , types of UAS platforms, flight parameters, calibration and optical resolution,

8. UAS operation regulations:

European and national regulations, regulations in developing countries

Instructions for Authors

All submissions will be peer reviewed according to the European Journal of Remote Sensing (EuJRS) guidelines. Submitted manuscripts should not have been published or be under review elsewhere.

Prospective authors should consult the Instructions for Authors page on the journal website for guidelines and information on paper formatting and submission.

Authors should submit manuscripts using the EuJRS manuscript central system at Please choose 'EuJRS Special Issue Paper' from the 'Manuscript Type' picklist on the submission form, irrespective of the paper type (i.e. even if your paper would normally be classified as a Research Paper, or Review Article). Also, please enter “UAS for mapping and monitoring”in the space provided on the submission form for the name of the special issue.

Payment of the article publication charges for this special issue will be coordinated through EARSeL. Please ensure that you have confirmed your submission with EARSeL and then, on submitting your paper, select “I understand that an APC applies, and I, or my institutional representatives, will coordinate payment.”

Final manuscripts submitted to EuJRS:  March 31, 2019

Expected publication date:  April 30, 2019

Articles will be available online approximately one month after acceptance, final technical review and the completion of revisions for compliance with journal format.
